They get warm while recording. That's normal.
The arms of the glasses warm up during recording, the way any working camera does. With WiFi on while you record, the Denali runs warmer still and the battery drains noticeably faster; that is normal for any camera, not just ours. For the longest runtime, keep WiFi off while recording and connect the app when you want to preview or transfer.
Setup and first-time use
The Denali records hands-free point-of-view video to a microSD card. Basic recording needs no phone or app. The most common first-time questions are about the WiFi app connection and the battery, so this page leads with those.
What is in the box
- iVUE Denali camera glasses (polarized lenses installed)
- One set of clear indoor lenses
- USB-C charging cable
- microSD card reader (the small black USB accessory)
- Reset pin and protective case
Some bundles include a microSD card. The glasses require a card to record, they have no internal storage. All controls and ports are on the left arm.
Charge fully
Lift the rubber cover at the end of the left arm and connect the USB-C cable to a wall charger or computer. The light turns solid red while charging. A full charge takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Keep the glasses powered off while charging.
Insert the microSD card
Lift the rubber cover on the left arm near the middle. Insert the card with the gold contacts facing the inside of the frame (toward your head). Push until it clicks. Cards up to 128GB are supported, formatted as FAT32 (see troubleshooting if a new card behaves oddly).
Power on and record
Press the control button once. The glasses enter standby with a solid light. Press once more to start recording (the light flashes, two short vibrations). Press again to stop and save. Files are written to the card only after you stop recording.
Indicator lights
A steady light means standby (on, not recording). A flashing light means recording.

Switching between 1080p and 2K
In standby, press and hold the WiFi button on the left arm for about 1 second. The light changes color (blue is 1080p at 60fps, green is 2K at 30fps) and the glasses vibrate 3 times. The setting is remembered. 1080p is best for action and battery life; 2K offers higher detail.

- Control Large button on the outside of the left arm: record, photo, power
- WiFi Smaller button behind the control button: WiFi on/off, resolution switch
- USB-C Charging and computer transfer port, under the arm
- microSD Card slot next to the USB-C port (up to 128GB)
- Reset Pinhole next to the card slot, for the included reset pin
Connecting the Denali app
The free app adds live preview, wireless file transfer, and advanced settings. Basic recording does not need it. Search iVUE Denali in the Apple App Store or Google Play and install the latest version.
The glasses create their own short-range WiFi network directly between the glasses and your phone. No router and no internet are involved.
The app walks you through pairing with a short guided wizard. Just follow it on screen:

Get startedTap GET STARTED.

Find the controlsThe power and WiFi buttons are under the left arm.

Power onSolid light: blue is 1080p, green is 2K.

Turn on WiFiPress the WiFi button, watch for an orange flashing light.

Join "iVUE"Tap OPEN WI-FI SETTINGS, join iVUE, password 12345678.

"No Internet" is normalTap GOT IT and stay on the network.

ConnectedYou land on the Home screen.
Permissions: the app asks for Local Network the first time you connect, so it can talk to the glasses, and Photos the first time you save a clip. Allow both, or the app cannot connect or save your footage.
The glasses' WiFi does not provide internet, it is a direct link to your phone. Ignore the warning and do not tap "use cellular instead." Your phone returns to its normal network when you disconnect.
After the first pairing, reconnect anytime from the app's Home tab with RECONNECT. Once connected, the app gives you:

Troubleshooting
The two most common questions are about the WiFi app connection and battery life. Start there.
WiFi or app will not connect
- Confirm the glasses are on and you pressed the WiFi button. You should see a flashing yellow light along with the solid blue or green light.
- Refresh your phone's WiFi list. Look for the network named exactly iVUE (not "iVUE Camera" or "iVUE Denali").
- The password is 12345678 (digits 1 through 8, no spaces).
- If the network shows but the app will not connect, open your phone Settings, find the iVUE Denali app, and confirm Local Network, WiFi, and Photos permissions are on. Then fully close and reopen the app.
- If it still will not connect, power-cycle the glasses, re-enable WiFi, and try again.
The "No Internet Connection" warning is expected and does not indicate a problem.
Battery seems short
WiFi use drains the battery quickly. If WiFi was on during recording, short runtime is normal. With WiFi off you should get 70 to 90 minutes of continuous recording.
To confirm your battery is healthy:
- Charge fully.
- Make sure WiFi is off (no yellow light).
- Press record and let it run until it auto-stops.
- Check the total length of the video files.
70 to 90 minutes means the battery is healthy. Under 15 to 20 minutes with WiFi off means contact us. Note: the battery indicator in the app is a rough estimate and is not reliable, so judge by this recording test rather than the on-screen level.
The glasses keep shutting off after a few minutes
This is the Auto power off setting, not a malfunction. It defaults to 3 minutes on many units, so the glasses shut off after 3 minutes in standby without recording. To change it, connect to the app, open Settings, find Auto power off, and set it to Never. This only affects standby, not active recording.
"No file available" when checking the app
Files are written to the card only after you stop recording. If the glasses are still recording when you check, nothing appears. Stop recording first (the light goes from flashing to solid), then open the file browser. Your footage will be there.
Live preview is black or blank in the app
Live preview is designed to keep working even while you record (it shows a REC badge over the feed). If it is black or blank:
- Make sure you are connected: finish the pairing wizard and confirm the orange WiFi light is on. Close and reopen the app, then open the Live tab again.
- On some Android phones (recent Samsung Galaxy and Android 16), the preview can show blank or green. This is a known app issue and a fix is rolling out. Your glasses still record normally, only the on-screen preview is affected. Update the iVUE Denali app from Google Play when prompted.
Video looks soft or blurry
- Check for a protective plastic film on the camera lens and peel it off. This is a very common cause on new units.
- Clean the lens with the included cloth.
- Test in bright, well-lit conditions. Wide-angle lenses look softer in low light.
- If footage is still unusually blurry in good light after cleaning, contact us for a warranty assessment.
The glasses started recording on their own
Depending on your unit's firmware and generation:
- If they record immediately on power-on, your unit auto-records on power-up. Press the control button once to stop and return to standby. Everything else works the same.
- If they start recording when you connect the app over WiFi, or when you long-press the WiFi button, your unit has older firmware. Press control once to stop, and contact us about a firmware update. Units from June 2026 forward include v12 firmware, which fixes this.
New SD card not recording (FAT32 format)
The Denali requires the card formatted as FAT32. Many cards 64GB and larger ship as exFAT, which the glasses cannot use.
- Back up any files first (formatting erases everything).
- Connect the card to a computer with the card reader.
- Windows: right-click the card, Format, choose FAT32. Mac: Disk Utility, format as MS-DOS (FAT).
- Reinsert and test.
If the card looks empty but still will not record, deleted files may sit in the Trash or Recycle Bin on the card. Empty it from the card's drive and try again.
Will not charge or turn on
- Try a different USB-C cable. Not all cables charge reliably.
- Use a wall charger rather than a computer port for the first attempt.
- Some units charge without a visible light at first. Give it 30 minutes before concluding the cable is the problem.
- Hold the power button for several seconds (not a quick press).
- If nothing works after a different cable and wall charger, contact us.
Will not turn off, or powers back on by itself
This is a hardware defect. Do not continue troubleshooting. Contact us for a warranty replacement using the form below.
The USB-C port has separated from the frame
This is a manufacturing defect covered under warranty. Do not attempt to repair it. Contact us using the form below.
Computer does not recognize the glasses over USB
- Confirm the glasses are completely off before connecting, not just in standby.
- Try a different USB-C cable.
- Use the reset pin under the rubber cover (a software reset, no files deleted), then try again.
- If still nothing, remove the card and use the included card reader. Your files are still there.
Audio plays but the video is black
The file is fine, the issue is your media player. Install the free VLC media player (Mac and Windows), which plays the Denali's video format. If VLC also shows no video, contact us.
Powers on briefly with a green light, then shuts off
This usually means no SD card is inserted, or it is not seated. Lift the rubber cover and push the card firmly until it clicks. If a card is already in, remove and reinsert it with the gold contacts facing the inside of the frame.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Denali connect to my home WiFi?
No. It creates its own short-range WiFi directly between the glasses and your phone. It does not use your router or the internet.
Do I need the app to record?
No. Recording, photos, and resolution switching work with the physical buttons. The app is for live preview, advanced settings, and wireless file transfer.
Can I record while charging or on a power bank?
Yes. Connect any standard USB-C power bank (5V/1A) and record as long as it has power. WiFi must be off while recording on power, or the glasses charge only.
How long does the battery last?
About 70 to 90 minutes of continuous recording with WiFi off. WiFi use reduces that significantly, and 2K uses more power than 1080p.
My phone shows "No Internet" when connected. Is something wrong?
No, this is normal and expected. The glasses' WiFi is a direct link to your phone and does not provide internet. Ignore the warning and stay connected.
Where is the camera?
On the left side of the frame, positioned to record your point of view. The 135-degree wide-angle lens captures roughly what you see looking straight ahead.
Which controls are on which arm?
All controls and ports are on the left arm. The right arm has no buttons or ports. If you cannot find a button, look on the left arm.
Can I take photos?
Yes. From standby (solid light, not recording), quickly double-press the control button. One vibration confirms the photo, saved as a JPEG.
What SD card should I use?
Any reputable microSD card up to 128GB. Cards larger than 128GB are not supported. Format as FAT32 before first use (see troubleshooting).
How do I get my videos onto my phone?
Use the iVUE Denali app. Connect over the glasses' WiFi, open the Gallery tab, open a clip, and tap Save to Photos. It saves to your phone's Photos library.
How do I get my videos onto my computer?
Power the glasses off, connect with the USB-C cable, and they appear as a drive. Open the DCIM/Movie folder and drag files over. Or remove the card and use the included card reader.
Are the glasses waterproof?
No. Light moisture and sweat are fine, but heavy rain or submersion can cause damage.
Can I use them as safety eyewear?
No. The Denali is not impact-rated or certified safety eyewear. Use properly rated safety glasses where eye protection is required.
What is the Clip duration setting?
In the app's Settings, Clip duration splits a continuous recording into separate files (Continuous, 3, 5, or 10 minutes). The glasses never stop recording, they just start a new file at each interval. The default is Continuous.
The glasses keep shutting off after a few minutes. Why?
Check the Auto power off setting in the app. It defaults to 3 minutes on many units. Connect to the app, open Settings, and set Auto power off to Never.
Can I record in portrait/vertical?
No. The Denali records 16:9 widescreen only. You can crop to vertical in editing software afterward.
Does it do live streaming?
No. The Denali does not support live streaming.
Is there a thermal auto-shutoff?
No temperature shutoff. There is a battery safety shutoff at about 80 to 85 minutes of continuous recording, which is normal. After a short rest the glasses can resume.
